HughesNet Review The Worst ISP in America?

Show DescriptionHughesNet Review The Worst ISP in America?HughesNet Review The Worst ISP in America?

This HughesNet Review was created due to the horrible experience I saw in this ISP. If you have any other option besides a Satellite Internet Service, please look at that option before choosing HughesNet..
Over the years I have seen a lot of HughesNet customers very upset, so much so they call the company a scam. Truthfully, they are not but they do choose the words they use very carefully to ensure they appear to be a better ISP than one would experience..
Visit the FCC to find local ISPs in your area: https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/.
If there is a “Fixed Wireless” option, please look into that over a Satellite ISP..

The main things you need to look for are;.
-ISP Guarantee Speeds.
-ISP Data Limits.
-Latency/Ping.
If the company requires upfront payment prior to being able to confirm speeds, take that as a red flag. Although you may only have a few limited options in your area. So make sure to check back on the FCC website a few times a year to see if new options appear.

How Can I Check My Speed Performance? 1. Navigate to www.testmy.net in your browser. If you already have a testmy.net account, click Sign In/SignUp.

If you do not have an account click 2. Sign into your testmy.net account. After signing in, verify that your username shows in the upper-right. My download speed is slower than my upload speed. I have to type real slow on most pages as the response will not follow my typing speed. I have an old modem Ht1100 runs awhile then hesitates and usually has to be rebooted.

Restarting them can help give you a clean slate and may speed things up. To do so, just turn off the modem and hit the reset button on the back of your router. If either doesn’t have a power or reset button, just unplug the device. In those cases, wait around 60 seconds, then plug it back in/turn it back on.

Note that plan speeds are “up to” your plans rated speed although Hughes does strive for at least 60% of that. Be aware that all Hughes plans have data caps and your speeds will be severely reduced if you exceed your data allotment. If you go over your FAP limit, HughesNet will slow you down and you will have limited speeds until your plan renews, you purchase additional data via a data token (if and when available to do so) or upgrade your monthly service plan to include more full-speed data!

Click on ‘My Account” on the right of the top menu. Click on “System Control Center”. Click on “i” to the right of System Status, System Information and language. Click on. CONNECT YOUR DEVICE Connect your device via WiFi or Ethernet to the router.

For testing true internet speed it is best to connect your device directly to the router via Ethernet cable. Here’s how to restart your modem and router: Unplug your router and your modem. Leave everything unplugged for at least 30 seconds (Go make some coffee or let your dog out.) Plug your modem back in, then let it boot up (this takes one to two minutes) Now plug your router back in and let it boot up. Now, regarding your speed issue, there is a setting change in the HughesNet modem that may help. It would be best to perform this setting change with a LAN cable connected device, if you have one available.

HughesNet Speed Test FAQ. HughesNet speed tests function by sending data from your home network to a remote server and back via the HughesNet Internet network. This allows the test to analyze the speed of data transit, the latency or “delay” before it finishes the journey, and how upload/download speeds compare for home users.

If so, try powering down the modem and restarting. Unplug the power cord from the wall (not from the modem), wait 10 seconds, then plug it back. Also be sure to keep your modem in an upright position away from walls to allow it to get proper air flow.

Myth #3 – Using Satellite Internet ties up your phone line. HughesNet delivers two-way, high-speed Internet access over satellite – not over your telephone line – so you can talk on the phone and surf the Web at the same time. That can save you money by eliminating the need for a second phone line.
